Culmination

from 50.00

Culmination is technically not from the Mojave Desert. However, it fits thematically with the Mojave Monochrome collection far more than it does with any of my other work, so I have chosen to include it here as part of the collection for those interested in collecting a set of my dune images. The image was created by hand using a wooden Intrepid 8x10” field view camera and Ilford Delta 100 8x10” sheet film in a vintage 1920s Kodak-Graflex wooden film holder at the Oceano Dunes near Pismo Beach California. The image is titled as such because it represents the first truly successful image at the end of a long trip which did not go as hoped. California had been experiencing horrible wildfires which ravaged our state and filled the air with dense clouds and haze of smoke throughout most of the state. Campgrounds were full and some places were inaccessible. So my friend Heath and I were forced to the coast to escape the smoke, where we found this image, and also my image, “Twist.” Together the two images represent a successful end to the search for good photographic opportunities in adverse weather conditions that in many places made it difficult even to breathe.
