I've just finished work on several new additions to my black and white dunes series. I'm currently working on a personal project where I photograph dunes in the Mojave Desert on black and white medium format 6x7 film. The way this film captures light, shadow, texture, detail and tone is just spectacular. The detail and light in these images blew me away when I opened the files to work on them. The medium of large film negatives really is a great fit for this project.
The Mojave Desert is a beautiful place where the earth bears it’s true self on an unfathomable scale. The large film images made on a traditional all-mechanical medium format camera really make an excellent medium for me to work in as an artist and allow me to bring some of that beauty into my home, and I have a lot of joy in working with this vast and rugged landscape to create these images. It is my hope that you can take a few minutes out of your day to truly enjoy them and that they open your eyes just a little bit more to the rugged yet delicate natural beauty that is out there. “Too many people overvalue what they are not and undervalue what they are.” —Malcolm S.
