This one is a complementary image to the reflection image I posted last week.
Aspen near peak fall color are reflected by the tranquil waters of North Lake in California's Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains at over 9000 feet elevation in October.
Erica and I recently returned from our annual fall color trip to the Eastern Sierra. It was a very last minute decision to go this year, and we actually made the decision to head up there in the week after we usually go, so we were worried a bit about missing the peak colors. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to find that not only had we not missed the fall colors, but many areas were still green, and a large percentage of the areas were at peak foliage. Having photographed here for the last two consecutive autumns, I was looking for something different from what I'd shot in previous years. This image is one of a series of color abstracts I made on the trip by shooting the reflection of the trees instead of the trees themselves.
My vision for this series was to create a series of abstracts that will look great on large scale canvas prints, and also on metal or traditional papers. I can picture this one sitting as a large framed print above a mantle, sofa, or office desk.
